![]() Microsoft and IBM for example have their own speech recognition toolkits that they offer for developers, but they are not open source. The difference between proprietary speech recognition and open source speech recognition, is that the library used to process the voices should be licensed under one of the known open source licenses, such as GPL, MIT and others. What is an Open Source Speech Recognition Library? If you are an ordinary user looking for speech recognition, then none of these will be suitable for you, as they are meant for development use only. You can think of them as the underlying engines of speech recognition programs. Some of them come with preloaded and trained dataset to recognize the given voices in one language and generate the corresponding texts, while others just give the engine without the dataset, and developers will have to build the training models themselves. Developers will first have to adapt these libraries and use them to create computer programs that can enable speech recognition to users. It is the software engine responsible for transforming voice to texts. What is a Speech Recognition Library/System? I have tried deselecting English and selecting another language, and then changing back to English, but no success. Under Settings>General Management>Keyboard List and Default>Google Voice Typing there isn’t a “Offline Speech Recognition” heading only “Languages” which is set to English. Unfortunately, I still can’t use Speech-to-Text offline. Samsung Keyboard is active (it actually has no slider to turn on or off). I have set the settings so that only “Google voice typing” is active. “Samsung Keyboard” (with no on- or off- slider), “Google voice typing”, “Google voice typing legacy”, “Samsung voice input”, and “Keyboard button on navigation bar”. I tapped “Keyboard list and default” and have the following settings: ![]() Then it’s “Text-to-Speech Output”, “Date and Time”, “Samsung keyboard settings”, “Keyboard list and default”, etc. Under Settings>General Management I only have “Language” and not “Language and Input” I apologize for not responding any sooner I just been very busy. I accidentally it "Accept As Solution", but unfortunately, I'm still having problems. Could this have anything to do with this problem? According to the video this can result in Android not being able to find the downloaded voice files to use. I saw a video on YouTube ( Google Translate - Offline Translation Not Working on Android ) that suggests Samsung has an unusual way of storing certain files - I think it is some sort of virtual storage device. Is there anything else I could try to solve this problem? ![]() ![]() In either case, I seem to be completely unable to use voice typing unless I have some sort of active connection. If I enable the Samsung voice input, I get a "no network connection" message. When I try to dictate a message using Google Voice, I am still unable to get it to work, even though English is set as the offline speech recognition language. I have gone to Settings > General management > Keyboard list and default > Google voice typing > Languages and English is set to the preferred language.
